Using net-5501 board along with DD-WRT on a Kingston 1GB CF card
http://www.kingston.com/flash/cf_standard.asp (yes, 1GB is not listed though
it is the same series)
This has been working great several months now, just until I had DD-WRT
crash on me.

After several reinstalls of DD-WRT (install happens an a secondary machine
physdiskwriting the binary file to the CFcard) in which the installation
would not boot (grub error 25), I stumbled upon an article about the comBIOS
Flash parameter.

Setting this to Flash=Secondary solved my problem, now DD-WRT would boot. At
that point I was trying an older DD-WRT build, so in good faith that I had
solved the boot problem I reinstalled DD-WRT with latest build.

Then it would not boot again (grub error 25 again). I doublechecked if BIOS
had reset to defaults, the parameter was still Flash=Secondary, so all
should be good.

Then I reverted the flash parameter back to Flash=Primary and then it would
boot.

Now I am concerned, why the settings would change, and if I could/should
expect that the firewall may need this manual change if I warmboot/coldboot
the board?

After your experience are Kingston CF cards just as bad as the less known
ones?

Could the situation of installing DD-WRT in one machine (Standard PC with CF
card reader and Windows XP) change the Master/Slave role.

Reading the wiki, it seems only to be a matter of a CF card either needs
Primary or Secondary, not the CF card changing role.
