As has been noted many times on this list, there's no way the 4501 will push gigabit speeds, it caps out somewhere between 25 and 35Mbps, depending on who's testing and how. The 33MHz PCI bus will just barely push 1Gbps itself. If you need gigabit, look elsewhere; if you're just trying to avoid an MTU mismatch, there are gigabit mini-pci cards (like Commell's MP-541-d) available a simple search away.
