I've been lurking on the list for a few months, and I currently have two
Soekris devices in service (a 4801 and a 5501). I note that there seems to
be sporadic traffic of the following form.
Q: my Soekris is doing weird things and appears to not be running correctly
A: try a different power supply

It seems that more often than not a different power supply solves the
problem. This causes me to wonder aloud to the list, and ask what are
likely rhetorical questions.
1. Why does it seem so difficult to find good, reliable power sources for
the Soekris? Is there a brand/model that works reliably with the Soekris,
for many years, that is suitable for us in the United States (110 V, 60Hz)?
2. If such a devices is known to the market, why isn't that the one shipped
with a new Soekris device?
3. Given that the Soekris family of devices is either finicky about power
supplies, or that good power supplies are hard to find, would it make sense
for future Soekris devices to add additional LED displays to identify
over/under voltage or over/under current conditions in the power supply?
That way at least we'd know that the power supply was the likely source of
the issue, rather than guessing.

I love the devices, but the power supply interaction does seem to be a bit
of a weakness in the package's usability.
