I do like the idea of installing it on a Virtualbox image and then using dd, but will I run into problems installing it on a virtual box and then coming it to a compact flash and getting it to boot. The reason I ask is because the virtual box is obviously not going to have the same hardware as the soekris.
Hal: unfortunately the image for the net5501 will not work for the net4521. It just freezes at loading initial ramdisk.
