On the 5501, you can only use Sandisk branded CF, most other brands don't get detected reliably during the first boot. Just get a 4 GB Sandisk, like the Ultra II or whatever branding they are using these days. Writing to CF is always slow, and I think it matters too much for the uses we use soekris for (mostly booting the OS and running a firewall). No need to shell out extreme amounts of money for super fast CF.
