Hi Everybody,

We're now going to start shipping the new net6501, we will be contacting
everybody on the interest list first, when done with that it will become
available to order directly on the website.

We have 120 pcs net6501-50 now, with the next 600 pcs net6501-50 to
arrive in about 5 days, then the first full run of both -30, -50 and -70
to arrive in about 5 weeks.

Please note:

Boards are ready now, the standard case will be here in 4-7 days. The 1U
19" rackmount case is being worked on, should be here in 4-6 weeks. The
hard drive mounting kit is not that perfect yet, will have a frame for
mounting 1-2 drives, but only cables for one drive for now....

The uSD socket have been replaced with a low profile USB socket, to be
used with a low profile (about 5mm) USB flash drive, those should be
easily available, BUT the USB boot code is still to be completed, see below.

We recommend to use mSATA SSD for booting, and have ordered a number of
Transcend mSATA SSD's in 2G SLC, 4G SLC, 16G MLC and 32G MLC sizes,
those should be here in about 2 weeks. The Intel 20G SLC and 40G MLC
mSATA SSD's are also nice and easily available online.

Any 2.5" SATA HD and SSD should work, but please be aware that some of
the cheap SSD drives are crappy, t.ex. the Kingston SSDnow 100 (and
probably other Jmicon JMF616 based ones) are really crap. But are fine
if used Read Only.

Software:

The BIOS is not completely done yet, there are these limitation:

The USB boot code need to be completed, it's complex and will probably
take 4-5 weeks. Until then install is by PXE netboot or by moving drives
around.

The comBIOS flash updating code is not done yet, should take just a few
days to do. But the uManager can update everything, including itself,
over the serial port.

The uManager don't have voltage moniter and fan control yet, will
probably take 2-3 weeks.

The Atom's HT mode is not initialized yet.

And probably some minor issues to be discovered and quickly fixed....

FreeBSD 8.2 have been tested to be working good.

OpenBSD 4.9 works, but have problems with APIC interrupts, for now it
run in 8259 interrupt mode, expect to get it fixed soon.

Havent't tested any Linux, will do in the next couple of days.

Any software need to be new enough to support the Intel 82574 ethernet
controllers.

Will have net6501 Manual up on website in 3-4 days.

Best Regards,
