@ John Monk Yes sure it would be grateful to have one ;) if you need it really. Only for a short vpn connect from outside, as a road warrior, or for private use with a BlackBerry, an iPhone or iPad to connect a HDD in the dmz it will be enough speed I think, but for professional use it seems be better to have one, because more vpn connect slow down the throughput hardly sometimes, and with the vpn1401 we were pushing up a vpn connect from ~ 17 MBit/s to ~ 42 MBit/s with a Soekris 5501-70, well done hardware!!! But the Intel hardware on the net6501 board is not stressing so hardly the cpu like other chipsets, so perhaps you tell more about for what you will use the box and with witch OS you want to use the box. Otherwise the OS on the box is doing more than plain NAT and packet filter rule sets likes ZeroShell or ClearOS with an antivirus scan in combination with DansGuardian or something else like this. Also it will be perhaps the best to know exactly before buying the hardware, what you want to do now in time and in the future (private or business use) so it can be the best to wait several month and then you buy a net6501-70 model with 1,6 GHz and 2 GB ram to have more maintain reserves for future wishes or needs. @ Soren (please don´t kill me) Sure we don’t know you're next projects and the time you have to spend on, but to think ahead of following situations will be ......... ask yourself please. 1. Only to count the wasting engineering time for one vpn board (vpn1501 / vpn 1511) that fits in the net6501 and perhaps the following net7501 ;) or several other machines (an upcoming new alix board with GB LAN ports and miniPCIe slots or perhaps a MikroTik RB800) perhaps to push up your business and brand. I really don’t know the relationship from engineering time and cost to the income or cash that comes in, but first there is nobody else in the market who is offering these boards for an accurate price, with this power!!! Sure there are some Luna or whatever else hsm´s (look the price please) out and at second not for private, little or small business customers to buy and not for this nice price. In other words I want to say please don’t give away this perhaps market niche. Ok I also don´t know about the internal politics of your company, so beware of bite me, if you don´t want support machines of other brands, but I thought each sold board is also cash in your cake box :)) and sure I love this vpn boards also really. 2. Before one or two years most people here in Germany where I live, says it will be better to integrate it in the hardware soldered on the boards, perhaps with an Intel chipset that is able to do the vpn job natively, but what is going on between the last years (in the EU zone) Europe I mean. Denmark is controlling at the borders, Netherlands want to install a video system that is able to read the number signs of cars (human faces also trust me please), the EU parliament wants to force their members, to ample supply data storage and so on and so on. Normally no problem but what comes next!!!??? Harder crypto hardware regulations perhaps! Ok you think perhaps now "what a wonderful tip to construct a vpn board know, at this time", but please wait, if you are not able to sell or deliver only the vpn boards it is truly hard, but the upcoming boards (net7501) will not be touched by this resolutions, a plain board I mean you are able to sell. 3.
