Having identicaly named cards does not mean they are identical.
Actually, it's far more likely that they are different, as consumer
memory products (CF cards, SD cards etc) are always optimized for
price, and frequently reoptimized.

That would be also my conclusion
I'd try to either get grub to wait a few seconds after loading
the first stage, or buy another CF card an try that one.
