I went to the 1.40b image to see how Linux likes it...
On the new BIOS Linux does seem happier with the MP table... But Linux
is now rather unhappy with the SATA - my drive setup that booted just
fine under the 1.40 BIOS no longer finishes booting because of the
following kernel messages. (The boot drive is a 160G Seagate 2.5" SATA
drive.) Notice the "timeout" errors.
