After sending that I remembered there was a thread on the pfSense forum where people found a similar calculation explanation, here: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,42313.msg219174.html#msg219174 Which in turn pointed out this: www.lm-sensors.org/wiki/FAQ/Chapter3#coretempreturnsunrealisticvalues It very well may be that things reading the temp are just getting it wrong.
