Hi Attila and list, @Attila: First please don´t think I´ll kidding you and at second it was my time I was spending for your problem, but if you don´t tell all specs out about your problem, it is also not so very easy to bring up the right tip to you, that helps you really out and don´t costs the world. Solutions with no cost, but make millions a very rarely.
If I remember me right, in one of the first posts, you were telling around something about 53 degree Celsius room temperature, where your soekris net5501 is acting in, is this right? Are you driving perhaps a machine over your soekris net5501 in this room and the machine is heating the room so hard? Are you using the WLAN for sending commands to the soekris net5501 box to drive the machine, because you have no way and ability to set it up or reach it over a LAN cable connects? Are you very angry about that the WLAN is not function and you must now leaving the room every time to adjust or recalibrating the machine for new jobs, like we all did it in the past good all gone time, so and called it "walking on LAN" with our brand new sneakers;) I hope these times never come back. Let us both think I want to help you really and it should not be much of cost, but please don´t hit me please read first: 1. You run OpenBSD on your Soekris net5501 with a hard drive (HDD) without the WLAN card. - You were telling us it is running well; ok than please let it so. = This stability problem is dispatched with the cost of nothing. 2. a.) You will have a look at the cheapest MikroTik WLAN routers at the cost of ~30 € with an installed RouterOS license. For the first steps they have a forum that is moderated by employees of MikroTik with fast and good answers. I guess you it runs smooth and fast and do the WLAN perfectly for you. Please connect the MikroTik Router to the soekris net5501. = The WLAN Problem is also dispatched with cost of ~ 30 € I mean very fast and cheap. b.) If you don´t want use this devices or it is too much time to learn the OS, or it is too expensive there are many, many WLAN to LAN or WLAN to USB adapters out of the market as an example from Alpha Networks, so you must not having an eye on the driver support and you are able to connect this easy to your net5501 via lan or usb. Another good working and fast to install workaround is an Power over Ethernet pair, if the rooms are not to fare away from each other. It is easy to install, no driver pain and easy to administrate. 3. If I´m right with my mind, that you must drive a machine with the soekris net5501 please have a look at the links placed in the next lines under point 4. Perhaps this device is not matching and fits exactly the point of your needs, but perhaps something in the right direction or it brings you to the right course. 4. Easy to buy, at the cost of under 100 € and can be connected to the Soekris net5501 on the serial port. <http://www.aliexpress.com/store/601953/210956899/CNC-Stepper-Controller.html> - with several spare parts <http://www.heise.de/hardware-hacks/artikel/3-Achs-Schrittmotorsteuerung-aus-China-1518901.html> - with description in German The cheapest and fastest way in my opinion: - Soekris net5501 with hdd and OpenBSD installed - Netgear WNCE2001 Universal DLNA WLAN-n Internet Adapter/Bridge 30 € (power over Ethernet is more expensive and if I´m right with my mind, at the other computer you have or did already installed a working WLAN) No drivers are needed totally device and OS independent and it worked for my neighbor for a long time without any problems (connected to his TV screen with a LAN port) - A device that is shown under the links in point 4 or something similar like this, connected to the net5501 via USB, LAN or Serial port. So I´m not an engineer likes you or Soren, sure, but I´m an absolute network fanatic and real computer freak since the mid 70` and I´ve learned in many years that it is better first, to solve the problem out and not search who is the guilty one or why this or that is not functionary well or I like it and then to be angry about something. Because my English is not the best and some of my words are misspelling in some cases or lines I only can explain it only in a shorter and easier way for all. I prefer choosing and going the way of Cassandra Brockett does. She has a bunch of soekris devices, and if one is not working well she is able to change the non working device very fast, rapid and easy and then she is going to search where is the false is pointed in, but her network is going fine and the packet are flowing. And if I´m right that you are using the net5501 on work, something around 150 € is not the real problem.
