Would it be possible to have a comBIOS option which disables the 
redirection and mutes the comBIOS output itself?

I'd vastly prefer configuring everything to use the serial port, as that 
way it *knows* that it is using a baud-limited connection.

(Of course, this may break stuff on other layers, I'm really not sure -- 
hence the question.)
