I think the 386 moniker is mostly used to mean 32bits.

The install kernel is the -486 kernel. The installer will install a
kernel appropriate to the instruction set. Memory may be a bigger issue.
I haven't installed on a 4501 in a long enough time that I'm not sure
whether it should work or not.
