Hey Tom,
I've also deployed a number Supermicro boxes during a few month span
when the net6501 was backordered using the "SuperServer 5015A-EHF-D525"
This worked as a good replacement since it has:
- an internal USB socket for boot software
- supports console redirection for headless operation and BIOS recovery
- software is seamlessly interchangeable between Soekris/SuperMicro for
the OpenBSD/FreeBSD-based firewalls I run
- has a PCIe slot so you can add a quad ethernet card for 6 ethernet
ports (versus Soekris' 8-12)
- supports SODIMMs, so you can run 4GB or RAM versus the Soekris' 2GB
max with the net6501-70

The ADI Engineering RCC-VE has a rackmount option
(http://www.adiengineering.com/products/rcc-ve-rackmount-appliance/)
which looks good, but I haven't used any of their hardware yet.

Cheers, Eric
