The above was a very interesting phase lock loop chip I found. I was
thinking that after I build a few H&P stablisers, I would look at using a PLL
circuit to obtain mixing frequencies from for each HF band. So a single source
for obtaining the hetrodyne frequencies from can be obtained from a seperate
PLL chip and crystal reference. Likewise a single temp controlled crystal
oscillator can be used with the combination of the H&P circuit and a PLL
circuit.
I want to eventually have a receiver i.f. of around 10.7 MHz for the
quadrature detector.

In the 7400 series IC's you will also find many that are usable for
quadrature detectors. I have found quadrature analog switches in that series
also; which I noticed was one of the chips used in the SR40 v5 circuit. This
comes in a DIP package. Hence such a deal can get you going in all sort of SDR
circuit investigations.
In the H&P the 74HC74 is used as the comaparator section. The 74HC164 is a
shift register which is used to adjust for long or short vco control delay.
The 74HC4060 is the CMOS OSC and 14 stage Binary Counter.
Some folk are using mere 5 mm red led diodes in place of a varicap in the H&P
and no doubt you can use a regular diode if you do not have a varicap of some
specific type. So thats interesting to remember.

hence building your own SDR receivers for use with Winrad, etc. I am now
