Bill I'm doing the same thing with a Racal RA6830 but built a homebrew board
that does the same thing as a SR6. I'm also involved in HPSDR looking for a SDR
that will outperform my hot rod RA6830. I still like a front panel and tuning
knob. I guess it is a buzzard thing to the computer wiz kids. The spectrum
display function is very nive in either demodulation mode.

          Hello Group

Well, I'm finally caught up with the mail from the different groups I subscribe
to. Seems like I never have enough time to read everything (some I just dealt
with go back to January!). Maybe I need fewer groups. This posting could go to
a few of them, but this seems most appropriate. Some time back there as a
discussion on using a radio with an IF output feeding a SDR for demodulation.
So, I have given it a try. Last spring I purchased a WiNRADIO G303i. Even
though I got the Professional Demodulator with it, I still enjoy disabling the
demod and using third-party software for that purpose (I really like Winrad.
Alberto, you have done a fine job with that.) (you see what I mean about this
could go to a few groups?) One of the drawbacks with the G303 though is that my
outdoor antenna overloads it a bit, sending MW stations to other bands. I
decided to try sending the 455kHz IF Out from my Motorola R390a (I don't think
it's even possible to overload that thing!) to the G303
and tuning for 455kHz. I was a little concerned with signal level being a bit
high, so I've attenuated it. I set the R390a bandwidth to 16kHz and now I can
tune through the bands by good old fashioned knob while also having the benefit
of the panadapter display. The G303 sensitivity is good, but I have seen some
weak signals get much more readable through the R390a. One of the benefits, I
think, is that with the various gain controls available, a weak signal is still
sent to the G303i at about -60 to -70 dbm, giving whatever demod I'm using a
signal that is easier to work with. I'm no engineer, but from what I remember
from my military training this extra conversion can be beneficial. I haven't
started using this setup, exclusively, but it is fun sometimes and combines the
hi-tech of SDR with the feel of old time analog tuning

I'm curious if anybody else out there has any experience with this sort of
thing.

Alberto, are you considering doing any more work with SDRadio? I like that it
has AM and ECSS as well as sideband.

My apologies for writing a small book. Thanks to all in the group.

Bill
