> tips on soldering

My biggest problem with soldering surface mount devices, was
keeping them in place until they were tack-soldered. I now use
a sticky soldering flux to glue the part in place, while soldering.
Then wash off with flux remover.

I'd quickly solder all the close spaced leads at once (bridging
and shorting them together). The I'd apply heat again, and solder
wick) removing the bridge and excess, but leaving solder under
the pads. It's almost impossible to hand solder the tiny-spaced
legs without bridging; it's much easier and quicker to go ahead
and bridge, then solder wick. Use flux.

I use either a 7-70 power zoom microscope (set to 7x), or a
5-diop Opto-viser.

Sincerely
