The AMSAT-UK Satellite Weekend will be held at the University of Surrey,
Guildford, England over 3 days from Friday 25th until Sunday July 27th and is
open to all.

Several Amateur satellites currently under construction make extensive use of
Software Defined Radio techniques for their linear transponders, see
http://www.uk.amsat.org/content/view/653/68/

On the Sunday there will be several presentations on the GENSO project. The aim
of this project is to automatically collect Digital Telemetry Data from Amateur
Radio and Educational satellites. Currently the Amateur packet standard AX.25
is used by most satellites although one satellite under construction is
planning to use D-STAR a trend which is likely to continue.

There will be a Satellite Beginners Workshop on Friday afternoon to show
newcomers how to get started in the fascinating world of Amateur Radio Space
communications.

Thanks to the British Amateur Television Club (BATC) the formal presentations
during the 3 days of the “Satellite Weekend” will be streamed live on the web.
This free service will be available at http://www.batc.tv/

The BATC will also be providing a Live Chat web page enabling viewers to post
messages.

Prof Sir Martin Sweeting, G3YJO Chairman AMSAT-UK, will open the proceedings at
2 pm (1300 GMT) on Friday.

At 4 pm (1500 GMT) there will be a presentation on the UK MoonLITE mission by
Dr Adam Baker of SSTL. This will be the first lunar mission by the United
Kingdom.

He will be followed at 4:45 pm (1545 GMT) by Dr Rob Gowen, Department of Space
& Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory, University College London
and Coordinator of the UK Lunar Penetrator Consortium) who will speak on
"Science Penetrators for the UK MoonLITE mission".

On Saturday at 9:05 am (0805 GMT) the Delfi-C3 team will be giving
presentations on their exciting new satellite. Its SSB/CW 435/145 linear
transponder will be activated in a few days time and is sure to prove popular
with satellite enthusiasts world-wide.

Later that day at 11:30 am (1030 GMT) there will be two presentations from
AMSAT-DL. These will be on the eagerly awaited P3E High Earth Orbiting
satellite and the pioneering Mars Orbiter P5A. This will be the first private
venture spacecraft to travel to the Red Planet providing Radio Amateurs with
some true DX signals.

The GENSO presentations start Sunday at 9:45 am (0845 GNT).
