Hi Leif, You have given me a lot to think about. I have book-marked all the links and will study them. Many thanks.
> I do not understand the purpose of a phase indicator. It would be hard for me to explain properly with my limited technical background but if you try the Sigmira program with the phase display running on WWV you should see what I mean. I find after a bit of practice that I can visually distinguish the average phase state from the often complex instantaneous phase variations. I think this is because the Sigmira phase display contains much more information - both short term and longer term phase variations can be seen at the same time. After using the Sigmira calibrate routine I can tune my SDR-IQ to read WWV correct to within 1Hz on the frequency display. But it would take an extra digit (0.1Hz) to get the long term phase completely stationary. If this could be done then I think one would have a high probability to measure - very quickly - unknown carrier frequencies to better than 1Hz accuracy - even in the presence of severe multi path propagation etc. Also, thanks for the explanation as to needed data rate versus panoramic display bandwidth. This is most helpful. I will try Linrad soon. 73, Chris ZL1BOE
