Hi,

An nVidia Linux engineer has suggested for HW accelerated OSD this method
(while they consider adding ARGB to Xv port):

"

1. Create a child window of your video window.
2. Redirect it.
3. Draw to it using Xv.
4. Blend your OSD onto it using the RENDER extension.
5. XCopyArea (or RENDER Composite with PictOpSrc) the pixmap contents into
your video window using IncludeInferiors mode (so it's not clipped by the
redirected child window).

"

Long-term OpenGL is probably better solution, but right now this seems
tangible. Is this even remotely interesting to anyone to work on? I
think latest ATI/nVidia drivers support XRender/XComposite, etc.

CR.
