I think it would make sense to introduce output profiles to support a similar setup. Say you'd want two output options, one for interlaced video output, another for high resolution vga output for a projector. You could then toggle between them using a user defined key on the remote. 

I guess this would require us to set all directfb params in video-dfb.c, and not rely on any settings in /etc/directfbrc.

This wouldn't provide simultaneous output on two devices with different signal requirements, but atleast it would support switching between them.
