usually using a reference model for something other then a reference can
lead to some very bad things, this is due to how reference models get
loaded in the scene. When the scene loads the ICE tree as its not reference
will be in the scene, and will try and connect all the inputs, but what
will happen is the references models get connected after the normal scene
data and so the ICE tree will be trying to connect to something that
doesn't exist.
