Here is a scene that demonstrates the fcurve node. It takes an array and sums the result. The trick is getting the animated curve into the fcurve node. I exported and imported the curve as a .fraw2 file using the right click context menu in the curve editor. ( I tried posting this a few times and it bounced so apologies in advance if there is a small avalanche of emails from me :P )
