Buddy of mine did a screencast of it for me over Skype. It looks and feels like a modern app. And it is incredibly fast. I know it's strengths are fast assembly similar to XSI. Thinking Particles for fx. It looks like a great look-dev environment honestly.
My take on it is that C4D is used as a 3D supplement to a lot of AE work out there, but has a strong feature set for hardcore CG nerds. Just our worlds have never met because we don't feel like we're doing real work unless we're sweating a bit.
