Thanks! 'humanize Maya', and Bifröst are late, but very good and welcome initiatives, but after this earthquake's aftershocks are finally over, things will oscillate back to 'normal', I believe. Anyway, best times for Maya users are upcoming. Less so for 3ds max, I'm afraid.
OT: That's the reason why I started watching Houdini videos, and fiddle around with it. The last time I did so was like 6 years ago, before I knew Softimage and was kind of 'spoiled' from 3ds max. Now I must say, this application is much less intimidating as I believed it is... quite clean and logic. Some concepts have different names (clusters are 'groups', polygons are 'primitives'...) but it's all there, mature and consistent. I'm checking if it might even be ok for 'entry-level', not just high-end TD stuff, because I like to take small steps in the beginning, but be able to scale as needed. There's an argument with sledgehammers on nuts, but then, pricewise, here in Europe H.FX is more or less equal to Softimage, and 500€ cheaper than max or Maya, if I'm not mistaken. Might be different in the new world. Modo's linear workflow is just not to my liking. Too bad... let's see what 801 brings. C4D is somewhere inbetween, but maybe still too much of a compromise in some ways. Anyway... I smell some fresh air again at last... This is perhaps the sanest, most relevant thing I have heard in at least a week (including things I have posted myself). I totally agree Eugen, nicely worded!
