It depends to some degree on which renderer you want to use. Some
renderers, like Arnold works a lot smoother with mipmapped textures for
which we use tiff and exr. MR is pretty good at handling all the texturing
stuff for you as well as 3Delight and Redshift. Tga's would be fine in MR,
but bear in mind you may want to use formats that support float for bump,
displacement and other special maps - tiff and exr do this.
