This was probably in mid 2014, when is was still possible to get soft licenses alone. When I wanted to update my soft2011 license in dec 2014, AD did not allow it and forced me to buy the bundle with max or maya. The update was around 2500EUR (floating license from soft2011 to 2015 including 3dsmax2015). Unneccessary to say that I didn't had any use for max.
I contacted my reseller a few month ago about buying a second network license for softimage. And guess what, I would had to buy 3dsmax with it again.
