There is no strand concept in Houdini like in Softimage, Strands in Softimage were Array attributes per point. In houdini aeverything is points, as you have already seen, polylines would work something like softimage strands, but they are still points. There is several ways to get attributes per primitive (polyline) so you can process them based on something resembling a point id. The connectivity sop will add a common value to all the points belonging to the same primitive.
You can also add an attribute to the length ratio of your polyline, it can be done through an expression or using the resample SOP you can turn on the generation of the curveu attribute, you can turn on resample by polygon edge, with maximum segments of 1 and max segment length option off, that way the attribute is generated without actually resampling. Other better way would be with a point wrangle just add this "f@curveu = @ptnum / (@numpt - 1.0);" One way to populate strands would be creating a base line, then using the copy SOP to copy it to a set of point positions which could come from a scatter node. Then you can inherit a lot of attributes from the points themselves. And set all your initial attributes on your base line. The thing to remember is that there is no such thing as a strand context, you have points, primitives and vertices, and you can move around data between these elements all the time. Hope it helps to start. On Thu, Mar 2, 2017 at 12:05 PM, Tim Bolland <[email protected]> wrote: > Hey guys, I'm after a little advice.
