seems like the universal move tool almost did the trick
but the minute i use it on objects with keyframes
it completely changes the objects worldspace....

ah i figured it out, I can group some objects,
move the group pivot
move the object group parent how I like
then ungroup, then keyframe the objects

so simple. thanks maya
