I was talking about XSI, not SI|3D as a windows version. I -think- I
fiddled with SI|3D starting on 3.8 or higher on Windows. No idea the UI
was that different form the Irix versiuon though. It always looked quite
Unix-y on Windows anyway. But you're right, I can vaguely recall playing
around with Twister and Sumatra on Windows way way back.

XSI was always a native windows application. Early versions of XSI came
bundled with Softimage|3D, not the other way around. This was mostly to
fill the holes of XSI's incomplete feature set with respect to polygon
modeling and particles. Once those holes were filled, XSI shipped on it's
own and the price was raised.

Wasn't v3 the first real Windows version?
I can recall that v1 and 2 were a 'complement' to the Irix SI|3D installers.
My archive goes back to v.3.5.1 for the first Windows version.
