I have to agree Alan - the best way to do this stuff is learn and do it
yourself. But we need to recognize that this may be mumbo MOJO to
semi-technical hams. This is perhaps the hardest adaption when working with
SDRs in a group like this if you are not mathematician and/or an engineer.
The chat can get very heavy at times and sometimes I find myself groping for
answers and the answers are not intuitively easy to understand without the
proper background.

For the non-engineering techy going from a crystal controlled SDR to PIC
controlled frequency agile oscillator is one heck of a big leap in
technology - so I can understand the turmoil in their thinking and a lot of
the builders are saying what the heck did I get into. Many are excellent
builders (they would not be here if they were not) but are not in to pushing
the design envelope and thus must depend on what others are developing.

The other side of this is the technology of controlling devices with PICs -
if you read all the threads there is several different approaches being used
to program PICs and it can be confusing to thinking when one must consider
what the other guys are doing and what should I do and how do I do it. We
opened Pandora's box by introducing the devices like the Si570 and the world
of PICs and it is good that a few designers are very patient and trying to
hard to keep up with everyone's wish list.

I personally want to thank all of the contributors to this new phase of
SDR's who have donated their skills and time. This is a very technical
group and we are working on the edge of technologies grabbing things off the
vendor's shelf almost before the device is a common market item - this is a
demanding science and it takes a lot of contributors to do these quantum
leaps in a few days.

Thankyou, Thankyou, Thankyou to the designers and to the builders/users who
keep coming with good ideas and challenges - this is a great group.

I suspect with an infinite choice of frequencies from the Si570 everyone
will think different.
Single band, all bands, 48/96KHz, utility, broadcast etc etc.

I'm not sure we should ask the developers to make too many options. I am
looking for the things I can't do like circuit and software improvements.

I found that learning the simple PIC programming far easier to than all the
other things about the Softrock. I encourage people to try.

Like Paul I offer to program PICs if my costs are covered.
There must be others in the group who can do this.

Thanks for everything Tony
