Basil don't build the simplification. I just blew my MC9S08QG8 chip :-) 5 volts is pouring into the MC9S08QG8 chip even with my LCD set to input ( QG8 write ). This is most embarrassing and unprofessional on my part, and I apologize to all affected. Build only the correct 74HC906 interface. Apparently my display is different from Jean-Michel's that's why I tried it. It doesn't work on all displays. Don't do it :-) Sorry for the confusion :-)
