What "seems apparent" would be easier to discuss if we would know which stateless solutions we talk about . Making progress on these specifications is key, IMHO, to avoid unverifiable comments on unspecified designs.
That's a fair comment. I was thinking in terms of a hypothetical solution that I had in my mind, but you are right that there may be differences between different approach. In the last IETF I was worried about making ICMP to the outside work without adding state, and someone helped me understand that it can be made to work. There may be similar eye-opening experiences to come.
