I'm running Outlook Express and have MS Outlook on my machine for
occasional use with my Pocket PC.
No offense to anyone but a lot of listers on most of my lists mention
the same cautions regarding MS products but I've never had a problem.
It's just a matter of being cautious and having the proper security
tools.
I have firewalls through the Linksys wireless router and ZoneAlarm. I
run full versions of Norton kept up-to-date and I run Pest Patrol frequently
to get rid of snoopers. I also run SpamKiller which monitors the mail as it
enters the server.
This latest batch of virus things have tried to get into my system once.
It was the SoBig(?) virus and Norton trashed it before I ever saw it.
It's my take that regardless what systems you're running on your
machine, it's important to keep ahead of the bug writers and this can be
done with the latest protection available. Besides, regardless of what they
cost (and they're really not all that expensive and some are free) it's far
better than getting caught with your guard down.

Case in point: I have a friend that runs a quasi-internet business,
selling lots of stuff on eBay and a long list of customers in his address
book.
Even though he has a relatively new computer which came with a trial
version of a well known and popular virus protection program, he never kept
it up-to-date because "It's too expensive" (his actual words).
He got caught with his guard down and all his customers received
multiple email messages with attached virus.
It's impossible to say what he lost in future business, etc. And all
because he was being overly cheap. Plus he helped spread that virus around
through contacts that may have had the same mindset as he.

    'Nuff said................

Since I use AOL, I never get viruses. They don't work with the AOL
software.
I don't even have to worry about them. The email virus uses MS Outlook to
do the damage. The main reason for using AOL for me is because I travel
constantly both domestically and international and I can log on from
anywhere. I
hate being out of touch with the great info on this list. Plus it helps me
NOT
get home sick... although I do get bike-sick! I want to be home on my
bike....
