> I can't seem to get my bike to time right. Woe is me. It is a 74 CB750 K
and we are sharing a love/hate relationship. Right now a problem is the fact
that Ican't seem to get it timed just right. When setting the 1-4 side I
turn the plate all the way clockwise and it seems it needs another 1-2 mm to
get dead on the mark. Why does the bike taunt me in this manner? Does it
want blood?

Oh yes - much more blood, much more money and your underlying problem is
obviously lack of rum. First check that the advancer is (a) not bent and (b)
not sticking and (c) hasn't shifted due to a dodgy locating peg. Nip eyes of
the the springs up with a pair of long nose pliers if they're loose. While
you're at it, might as well take the cam off and give it a very light
greasing on the shaft - mark which peg goes where and don't put it back the
wrong way round. Next check for wear on the advancer cam and also the points
fibre heel. If they are non genuine points, sometimes the heel is too thick
or thin and can really mess you around. Then...............

Set the points to 014" and try to time 1&4 on the F mark - NOT the T mark,
thats TDC. If it works then do the 2&3. Me, I always prefer to time my bike
with a strobe on the full advance mark - looks like II - at highish revs
and let the idle setting do what it will. Plan B is to get an electronic
ignition.
