Greetings.

Is anybody here familiar with the details of the EARLY Honda CR750?

My aforementioned (engine hardware) CB750 came to me from a breaker as
nothing more than a frame and original motor. BTW, it just happens to be a
'69 sandcast (frame #5198, engine #5090 :-). I know little of its history.

In setting about work on it, I've noted a couple minor differences in the
frame. Most notable is the rear fender brace going between the rear legs of
the frame.

On an Oct. '69 CB750 diecast and an earlier sandcast that I also own, this
crosspiece goes almost straight up then quickly across between with almost a
90 degree bend. On this bike, the brace is almost straight across with
perhaps a 45 degree elevation starting right at the frame member before
flattening out. There's a flat plate attached to this sticking back with a
round tube on it's trailing top edge for a crossbolt. This looks like
something I could envision for the small tailpiece on a CR750.

There's also an extra tab on the right downtube, about even with the valve
tappet adjust covers. It looks to be placed and oriented about right for a
steering damper.

Both of these have very nice welds, and in the case of the rear fender brace
I see no evidence that there was ever an "original" brace there. But it's
possible, of course. The frame does have some "street" features like the
horn bracket. The steering head is stamped CB750- not CR750-.

Does this sound like possibly a factory CR750 frame, or more likely later
mods by an owner? My plan was to restore the bike to street original, but
before I go "correcting" the frame I want to make sure I don't have
something REALLY special here.

TIA,
Mr. Bill
