I've posted these here before, and gotten no responses, but I'm going to post them one last time. If they don't sell here, they're going to the Coleman's Powersports bike auction this weekend.
1974 Honda CB750 K4. Sunrise Metalflake Orange. 32K miles, runs strong and well. 100% stock except the wheels, that are custom-built by Buchanan's Spoke & Rim, and a chrome luggage rack (that can be removed easily), and a nice o-ring chain that's close to new. Alloy rims, polished stainless steel spokes and nipples, new Dunlop GT501s (less than 200 miles), bead-blasted hubs. Here's the sad story. The bike was originally in great condition, but it was stolen a few years ago. When recovered a couple of weeks later, it had been pretty beat up. Sidecovers gone, seat pried off, control levers busted, mirrors snapped off, owner's manual and tool kit taken, and one cylinder fin snapped off (just a small dime-size piece). I bought replacement side covers (not in as good shape, but pretty decent), got new mirrors, levers, a replacement seat, JB-welded the chipped fin, and the bike runs and looks pretty good. But the tank still has a couple of nicks in it (no dents), the cas! e sides (around the stator) are nicked up, and it ticks me off every time I ride the bike, so I'm going to get rid of it. From 10 feet away it looks wonderful. From 10 inches away you can see these flaws. But if you want a good solid CB750, with a $1200 set of wheels on it, and that will run solid without any work, here's your chance. (Yea, I have considered buying a nicer CB and swapping the wheels, but I have way too many projects at the moment.) I'm asking $2500, but I'll consider offers. Yea, I can send you pics if you're interested. The bike is mechanically solid, and I expect you could ride it from here (Washington, DC) to LA without any mechanical problems. 1979 Honda CBX (six-cylinder 1050cc engine). Silver with black stripes, stock. Part of the reason I'm selling the CB750 is that I don't want it to end up like this. I practically never rode this bike, and now I've done the unthinkable and let it deteriorate by being outdoors under a cover. Used to be in spectacular shape, but now it's weathered and needs a carb cleaning. Bike has an overhauled engine (done 4 years ago by the previous owner), but I've probably ridden it only 1000 miles in 4 years, and not at all in the last year (or maybe it's been two - I think the last time I rode it for any length was on an SOHC/4 east coast ride). It runs great, but it doesn't idle (idle jets are plugged). Maybe some Yamaha carb cleaner run through the tank will clear them out; last summer it ran fine and idled fine. So, the body work still looks great. Tank is shiny (one small nick), but the instruments are weathered (the tach needle broke in half during a rev-up!) and the tops ! of the carb and engine cases are weathered too. Not real bad, but not beautiful either. It needs tires BADLY. The ones on it are practically bald, and yesterday I rode it about 40 miles just to get it up and running, and I could break loose the rear tire on turns just by blipping the throttle. Installed a new battery this weekend. I advertised this for $4500 this past weekend in the Washington Post, and a couple of guys called. One came to look it over, but he never got back to me, so I'm assuming he doesn't want the bike. Make an offer, or it's going to the auction this weekend. Along with the bike is a factory repair manual, and another book on CBXs. Yea, I can send pics f this too, if you're interested. PS - I am on grand jury duty, so if I you write to me and I don't get back to you quickly, that's the reason.
