I agree with most all of what Phill said.  And, I believe he is on the 
right track for a possible solution.  However, the 77 and 78 CB 750's do 
have an accellerator pump on the carbs.  Pumping them ought to make 
things richer.

So, Paul, did you balance the carbs, or put the slidse in backwards? 
 You could check your own work or pay someone else to do it for you. 
 Your choice, of course.
