I ran /usr/lib/acct/runacct by hand. /var/adm/acct/nite/fd2log has the
following line added:

ln: /var/adm/acct/nite/lock1 and /var/adm/acct/nite/lock are identical

I searched the docs (using SpotLight) for lock1 and this led to the
instructions "How to Restart the runacct Script".

After rm lastdate lock* (note: lock* was not found) /usr/lib/acct/runacct will
now run by hand. This freed up about 5% of /var. It is now about 92% full.

*--------------
Running /usr/lib/acct/monacct by hand still gives me the following error:

acctmerg: read error file 0. File may be empty.

I'm still looking at this one. So far no clues.

Thanks for the help. At least the daily is working now.

`ls -l /var/adm/acct/nite/fd2log` will tell you that. The cron entry
overwrites that file each time it is run, so most likely the date on it is
this morning, 2:30am.

I'd say yes, but it doesn't make sense to me that
/var/adm/acct/nite/fd2log could get created but
/var/adm/acct/nite/statefile could not. Check the permissions on the
directory anyways ( ls -ld /var/adm/acct/nite/ ) to verify they look ok.

You might try running /usr/lib/acct/runacct by hand, as the adm user, to
see if anything else strange is going on. Perhaps it is a space issue,
that at the time there was not enough space to create the
/var/adm/acct/nite/statefile file?
