I'm not seeing how the documentation is wrong here. It says: "When a <schemaFactory/> is not explicitly declared in a solrconfig.xml file, Solr implicitly uses a ManagedIndexSchemaFactory...."
IOW, managed schema is the default, and you may not find a schemaFactory definition in your file. When a schemaFactory is not defined, it is by default ManagedIndexSchemaFactory (see also https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-8131). The page then goes on to explain how to enable ClassicIndexSchemaFactory if you choose. Take a look at the last section, "Changing from Managed Schema to Manually Edited schema.xml".
