Yes, you are probably right that someone who has installed Solr on the particular OS might know the pre-requisites. However, people here might not be using your current OS (CentOS 6.0?). Also, it is not clear if this is a missing Solr component: From your description, it sounds like what is missing is the PHP module for interfacing with mysql.
