This is highly anecdotal, but I tried SOLR-1880 with 4.7 for some tests I was running, and saw almost a 30% improvement in latency. If you¹re only doing document selection, it¹s definitely worth having.
I¹m reasonably certain that the patch would work in 4.6 too, but the test file relies on some test infrastructure changes in 4.7, so I couldn¹t try that without re-writing the test.
