Wherever you put it, it should always be behind a firewall. Just because it is in the DMZ, doesn't mean that you can't secure it. Do the same as you'd do with a server in your LAN, deny everything and only allow specific ports you need to/from the box. Then only allow what ports you want LAN users to access to the machine on the DMZ.
