If you have the ability to, it is always safer to put public servers in
the DMZ rather than the LAN. The less traffic into the LAN, the less
chance for a hack. That is what the design of a DMZ is for. It is a
somewhat trusted zone, unlike the LAN which is completely trusted.
(Internal threats not withstanding.)
