INDONESIAN NATIONAL NEWS AGENCY ANTARA RI STILL STUDYING UN RESOLUTION ON KOSOVO'S FINAL STATUS Released : Monday, June 25, 2007 1:38 AM from ANTARA, The Indonesian National News Agency Jakarta, June 22 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is still looking into and studying a UN draft resolution proposed by the United States and Europe on the final status of Kosovo, International Security Director of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, Desra Percaya said here on Friday "Indonesia's latest position on Kosovo's status is that it is still looking into and studying (the case) because we are still seeking various contacts and holding negotiations on the new proposal in Jakarta and New York," he said Desra Percaya said Indonesia hoped the final status of Kosovo would be determined based on international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter He said there were two new draft resolutions proposed by several countries which contained at least two things different from the contents of the previous draft The first difference, he said, was that Pristna and Beograd were given a two-month deadline to conduct direct negotiations "The second one is that a new reference was contained on a special principle or uniqueness of the Kosovo case," he said Percaya said to some extent there was truth in the special principle "There should be no force in deciding the final status of Kosovo, and we suggested it should be decided through peaceful means," he said On Wednesday, the United States and Europe released a new UN draft resolution which recommended a four-month moratorium before designing a plan for the independence of the province of Kosovo, Serbia But Russia which has veto right in the UN Security Council, still rejected independence for Kosovo, while its ally, Serbia, agreed to accept it If after 20 days the talks prove to have failed, the resolution would automatically call for the implementation of an independence scheme made by UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari, except if the UN Security Council decided otherwise after carrying out an evaluation Kosovo has been under UN administration for almost eight years. If Russia rejected the plan, the West must decide whether it would be continued or not
