Church in southern Serbia desecrated 12 September 2007 | 16:42 | Source: Beta *BUJANOVAC -- An Orthodox church in the village of Veliki Trnovac near Bujanovac has been vandalized for the second time this year. * “We arrived to find chaos inside and outside the church. It has happened on several occasions over the past 6-7 years,” said Nenad Tasić from Bujanovac on Monday, having erected an iron door in a bid to secure the premises. “I am appalled by what I’ve seen in the churchyard and on the walls of a church that dates back to 14th century,” he said. Tasić described the scene: “Doors had been battered down, electrical lines pulled out, and the electricity meter stolen. The chandelier had been torn down, and we also found ash residue from a bonfire in the church hall.”. According to him, there were even traces of faeces inside. Priests visit the church in Veliko Trnovo several times a year, since there have been no Serbs in the village since 1960. The village belongs to the Bujanovac municipality and has 8,000 residents, all ethnic Albanians.
