The International Radio Serbia Serbian delegation satisfied with the changes to the resolution on minorities
02. October 2008. 18:23 ImageHead of the Serbian parliamentary delegation in the Council of Europe Milos Aligrudic expressed satisfaction that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe accepted most amendments to the resolution on the position of minorities in Vojvodina and the Romanian minority in Serbia. Such changes were accepted yesterday, so the initial draft resolution was adopted in its amended form. One of the most important changes was the deletion of the equating of the Romanian national minority and Vlachs. The draft resolution was relatively correct until it had been altered about a year and a half by an intervention of Romanian MPs, insisting on having Serbia force members of the Romanian national minority declare themselves as Vlachs, said Aligrudic. He stressed that Vlachs do not wish to declare themselves as Romanians as they have their centuries long identity. The head of the Serbian delegation said that the part of the resolution, in which Serbia is called upon to establish the right to education and access to public services in minority languages remains, even though these rights already exist in Serbia.
