Former Bosnian Mujaheddin leader arrested 7 October 2008 | 12:18 | Source: FoNet, Beta *SARAJEVO -- Ex-Mujaheddin leader in Bosnia-Hercegovina Imad al Husin, better known as Abu Hamza, a Syrian national, was arrested on Monday in the Sarajevo suburb of Stup.
* The Bosnian press reports that the Bosnia-Herzegovina Security Ministry stated that Hamza had been arrested by members of the security agencies, though they did not state the reasons for his arrest. He was transferred to the Immigration Center after his arrest. Hamza was a member of the Bosnian Muslim Army during the war when he was granted Bosnian citizenship, though this was revoked following the Bosnian citizenship revision process of 2007, after it was discovered that he had obtained it illegally. Hamza asked the Bosnian Constitutional Court to prevent the authorities from extraditing him from the country. He even sought the help of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, claiming that deportation violated his fundamental human rights. Hamza has a family in Bosnia, is the father of three children, and has opened his own textile shop in Sarajevo.
