"Urgent internationalization of Muslim question"

NOVI PAZAR -- The Islamic Community in Serbia has formed a working group
to put together a program of urgent internationalization of the issue of
Muslim religious freedoms.

Tanjug reported that the Meshihat of this Islamic faction, led by Mufti
Muamer Zukorlić, announced a gathering of representatives of political
parties, NGOs and other Muslim institutions and association, with the
goal of arriving at a joint position on "the continued occurrence of
violations of Muslims' religious rights in Serbia".

But the statement does not specify when or where this gathering is
planned to be held.

This Islamic community sent out its "sternest condemnation of the
violation of religious rights", pertaining to "disturbances of religious
education classes by some school headmasters in Sandžak", which,
according to Zukorlić's Islamic Community, is being illegally tolerated
by the ministries of education and religion.

The statement also reminds of a protest announced earlier, set to take
place on Oct. 13, in front of the Vuk Karadžić elementary school in Tutin.

What Zukorlić's faction sees as contentious is the fact that religion
teachers close to the rival Islamic Community of Serbia have been
engaged is some schools in the Sandžak region since the start of September.

Two weeks ago, Zukorlić called on his followers not to pay television
fees to the state television, "because of its anti-Muslim activities".
Now the Meshihat of his Islamic Community in Serbia has supported this.
