That is currently the case, but it's mostly predicated on the assumption/perception that APM is old crap that nobody cares about, like e.g. ISA SCSI, and that unlike ISA SCSI it was getting in the way so it couldn't just be left lying around. If some people do care, changing the perception might prompt someone to do something about it. Maybe. It's probably a good chunk of work and there's not much bang for the buck. (I do have an old laptop that long predates ACPI, but it hasn't been updated past 1.6 and is probably going to finish dying before I get around to bothering to do anything with it.) -- David A.
